Ray Bourque, Ron Francis Among Best Late-Season Additions in Top 10 Trade Deadline Deals in NHL History

The NHL trade deadline is fast approaching, with Monday marking the final chance for teams to make deals to bolster their hopes for an extended playoff run or sell off assets to accelerate the rebuilding process.

This year’s deadline could be a bit anticlimactic, as many of the major moves have already gone down. The Bruins were in on the early shopping spree, acquiring Tomas Kaberle, Rich Peverley and Chris Kelly in a trio of trades last week. They aren’t likely to make any more major moves.

But the final hours before the deadline can still be an entertaining frenzy. Deadline day is all but an official holiday north of the border. Recent years haven’t produced many real difference makers for Cup champions, but there have been plenty of memorable deadline deals over the years that have helped shape championship squads in both the short- and long-term.
