Report: Yankees Adding Depth With Signings of Eric Chavez, Ronnie Belliard

The AL East continues to reshape itself as teams add new faces.

On Saturday, the Yankees signed third baseman Eric Chavez and utility player Ronnie Belliard to minor league deals.

The 33-year-old Chavez, who has not played a full season since 2006, had a .234 batting average, one home run and 10 RBIs in 111 at bats last season for the Oakland Athletics. In his best years — between 2000 and 2006 — he averaged 28 home runs and 94 RBIs.

Belliard, 35, had a .216 batting average with two home runs and 19 RBIs in 162 at bats with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2010.

Both players would likely serve as back-ups for the loaded Yankees infield.
