Andy Carroll's debut may have just been the icing on the cake of a perfect Sunday at Anfield, but it surely left an impression on the young striker, as he was "over the moon" regarding the experience.

"It was great to get out there and the result made it even better," Carroll said of his first match in a Liverpool shirt.

"I was on the bench and itching to get on right from the kick-off really, but I've started now and can't wait for the next game.

"It was a great game, especially considering the opposition. Dirk [Kuyt] got a hat-trick, which was great for him, but I think every one of the lads played fantastically well."

Carroll was energized by the reception that he received.

When I was running back, all the fans were shouting and screaming and so I got a little bit excited. I was over the moon to get on there and get back playing.

"The support was unbelievable for me. The fans have been great since I signed and even when I was warming up, they were fantastic.

"It was an incredible atmosphere – definitely one of the best I've ever experienced."

Kenny Dalglish shared Carroll's excitement regarding his debut, saying that he has great expectations for his future.

"He is a good guy," said the manager. "He is not someone who thinks he is superior to anyone else, he just loves playing football and wants to be part and parcel of the club.''

"We have to temper his enthusiasm a bit. He is only a young lad, he is going to be big player for this club.''
