Freddy Garcia Expecting to Be Yankees’ No. 5 Starter As Strong Spring Continues

Freddy Garcia will most likely fill the fifth starting pitcher position in the Yankees' bullpen come spring.

Garcia felt good after retiring all nine batters he faced against the Braves on Tuesday. According to ESPN.com, Garcia could potentially even move into the fourth rotation position if they decide to push him above Ivan Nova.

Garcia has previously not pitched well in spring training –- this year, that curse has changed.

"So far, so good," Garcia said.

Thus far, Garcia has pitched five shutout innings. He is also happy with his increased velocity after a season in which he routinely only hit 85 mph.

"If I can live with 85, I can live with 88-89," Garcia said.

On Tuesday, Garcia threw 32 pitches, 20 were for strikes.

"That's the way I have to pitch if I'm going win the spot," Garcia said.

Garcia hasn't officially claimed the position yet, but it's safe to say he will.
