WALTHAM, Mass. — Celtics forward Glen Davis isn’t quite ready to return from the left knee tendinitis that’s kept him out of action since last Wednesday, but he’s getting closer every day.
“Be back soon,” he said at practice Tuesday. “Couple days, couple days. Hopefully, I’ll be ready.”
Celtics coach Doc Rivers said that Davis is doing much better, but for precautionary reasons, he’ll be “out the next two games, for sure.” That means no Big Baby on Wednesday against the Clippers, or Friday on the road at Philadelphia. The C’s have a back-to-back on Sunday and Monday after that.
Davis says he’s still limited physically with the sore knee — he can’t really move up and down with the left leg, which means no jumping and no shooting. But he’s trying to get past that hurdle in the coming days.
“Went swimming today,” he said. “Felt really good. Definitely getting better. Getting a lot of rest, getting a lot of stem and ice, watching a lot of film, trying to drop some LBs before the playoffs start. I want to be out there jumping like a jackrabbit.”
In other injury news on the second unit, there’s still no Shaquille O’Neal, Delonte West or Von Wafer on the practice floor. O’Neal (inflamed Achilles) is a week away, West (sprained ankle) is out Wednesday and doubtful Friday, and Wafer is still “nowhere close” to a return, according to Rivers.
The Celtics are hopeful they can get everyone back and clicking by playoff time.
“It’s going to be unbelievable,” Davis said. “We’re going to be hard to beat. We’ll have a lot of bodies out there.”
