Las Vegas Sportsbooks Stand to Take Significant Hits Should VCU Win National Championship

Though just two out of 5.9 million ESPN brackets correctly predicted the Final Four, there are at least a few people in Las Vegas who may have outsmarted the world.

The sportsbook at the Las Vegas Hilton took a $10 wager for VCU to win the national championship. With 5,000-to-1 odds, that lucky gambler stands to win $50,000 if the Rams win the whole thing, as reported by Covers.com. And the Hilton is hardly alone.

Managers at Caesar's Palace, The Mirage and The M all took some "big-money" bets on VCU at crazy odds.

The article explains that VCU is the biggest Cinderella in the tournament's history, surpassing LSU's 1986 squad and George Mason's 2006 team.

"We definitely have some liability associated with VCU winning the title," Jay Kornegay of the Hilton told Covers.com. "I can't say I'm comfortable."
