Manny Ramirez, Johnny Damon Prove They Can Still Deliver in Solid Outing Against Marlins

At 37 and 38 years old, Johnny Damon and Manny Ramirez are no longer the players they once were during their heyday with the Red Sox. But they still have some pop in their game.

Damon and Ramirez both went 2-for-2 on Tuesday, driving in four runs collectively. Damon also scored two runs in the 11-2 victory over the Marlins, while getting the start in left field.

Playing with his sixth team, Damon, 37, says he’s used to people comparing him to players of the past, and he realizes he’ll be getting a lot of comparisons to former Rays outfielder Carl Crawford.

“Any time I do something good, people are going to say, ‘Just like Crawford,'” Damon said, according to the New York Times. “Or if I miss a ball by a couple of inches, they’ll say ‘Crawford would have gotten it.’ I play hard, I’m a free spirit, and I still have some talent out there.”

Ramirez, 38, showed signs of his old slugger self as he batted cleanup. Manny hit a two-run home run in the first inning, followed by an RBI single in the second. His revitalized plate presence is definitely impressing his teammates.

“Manny’s scaring me a little bit,” Damon said. “He’s swinging a little too good right now. It’s great to see, and it’s especially great to see when you’re on base because you know when he’s hitting, you’re scoring runs.”
