Matt Russell is a 37-year-old scouting executive for the Denver Broncos.

He also was an All-American linebacker at the University of Colorado, where he won the Butkus Award as the nation’s best linebacker when he was a senior.

On Wednesday, Russell went head-to-head with prospect and fellow alum Nate Solder during CU’s pro day, when he volunteered to play the role of defender in a blocking drill with the 22-year-old offensive tackle.

Solder was decorated with awards during his time with CU as well and was selected as the Big 12’s Offensive Lineman of the Year in 2010 during his own senior year.

His stature is impressive. The soon-to-be-drafted tackle stands at a gargantuan 6-foot-9 and weighs in at a hefty 315 pounds.

Russell lasted through a few hits of the routine drill but threw in the towel after the one below.
