Troy Murphy Chooses Celtics Over Heat, Will Sign to Play in Boston

Troy Murphy has received perhaps more attention in the past week or two than he has at any point in his life, as the 30-year-old big man became a highly coveted player among the NBA's title contenders. At long last, Murphy has made up his mind, and he's chosen to play in Boston.

ESPN.com's Marc Stein reported via Twitter that Murphy chose the Celtics over the Heat, while CSNNE.com's A. Sherrod Blakely confirmed the report.

Murphy was included in a trade last week, sending him from New Jersey to Golden State, where he was promptly bought out of his contract.

In 11 NBA seasons, Murphy averages 11.8 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. His best seasons came in 2004-05 with the Warriors, when he averaged 15.4 points and 10.8 rebounds, and 2008-09 with the Pacers, when he averaged 14.3 points and 11.8 rebounds.
