WNBA Guard Becky Hammon Expresses Support, Positive Thoughts Toward Japan After Tragedy

The New York Liberty and the WNBA as a whole received widespread negative attention last week after Liberty star Cappie Pondexter made controversial remarks on Twitter about the tragedy in Japan.

This week, another WNBA player is making headlines for her comments about the recent earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan. This time, however, the attention is positive.

San Antonio guard Becky Hammon has a blog on her official website, and this week she reflected on the tragedy in Japan.

More specifically, she reached out to those suffering in Japan through her faith. Where Pondexter tried to find a reason as to why God would allow such a tragedy to happen – suggesting that God was perhaps tired of the way the Japanese were treating their own people — Hammon expressed her strong faith that God will continue to be with all of those going through difficult times in Japan.

"As I'm thanking God for life, I'll be trusting Him in death, praying peace and comfort as only a heart can," Hammon wrote in her blog entry. "And though I can't be there to hold your hand, I do know The Hand that holds me, will be holding you too. He never lets go."
