Track and field legend Carl Lewis is stepping into a new form of competition, as he will annouce Monday that he is running for New Jersey state senate as a Democrat, according to The Associated Press.

In the years since his athletic career that spanned nearly two decades, Lewis has been working as a civic activist, serving on the celebrity board of the Ronald McDonald House Charities since 2007.
