Jimmer Fredette Asked to Stop Attending Classes at BYU Due to Immense Popularity

JimmerMania has reached a new level of intensity.

Jimmer Fredette is no longer attending his classes at Brigham Young University due to his immense popularity around campus.

According to the Glen Falls Post-Star, the university requested that the college basketball superstar finish his coursework online since he can't go anywhere without being asked for autographs or pictures — even during class lectures.

"It was getting too disruptive," Jimmer's father, Al Fredette said. "He can't go anywhere in Provo without being recognized."

The new system will likely work out better for Fredette anyway, as he has been jet setting around the country ever since the NCAA Tournament, accepting various awards and making a few appearances. He spent this past weekend in Los Angeles, where he received the John Wooden Award and appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live with fellow NCAA star Kemba Walker.

Now that he's returned to Provo, however, Fredette's father says his son is just trying to keep a low profile for the remainder of his time at BYU.

"I asked him what he does on campus when he goes out," Fredette said. "He said he wears a hoodie and tries not to make eye contact."
