All of Boston was fearing the worst when Nenad Krstic went down on Thursday night in San Antonio with an apparent knee injury. But the good news on the Krstic front just keeps coming — the Celtics' big man says he's fine and hopes to return this week.

"I was thinking maybe even [Sunday], I could play," Krstic said before Sunday evening's game against the Pistons. "But I still feel a little bit uncomfortable. There's still a little pain. So maybe next game. I'm going to try to practice tomorrow and see how it feels."

Krstic returned home this weekend for an MRI on the knee. Like everyone else in Boston, he had worried the injury would be much worse than a simple bone bruise.

"I was scared," he said. "I was thinking it was more serious. I thought it was a meniscus or something — not a torn meniscus, but maybe damaged a little bit. But it turns out it's fine."

Krstic says the knee is still swelling a little bit, and he can't extend the leg all the way without feeling a little pain. He's been getting treatments from the Celtics' training staff — ice, massages, laser and ultrasound — and in the meantime, he'll be out Sunday against the Pistons. But he's confident he can return soon.

"Right now I feel great," he said. "I still feel pain, but I'm really happy it's nothing serious. This is really nothing right now. I'm not really worrying."
