Tigers Place Victor Martinez on 15-Day Disabled List With Groin Injury

SEATTLE — The Detroit Tigers have placed catcher Victor Martinez on the 15-day disabled list after he re-aggravated an already sore groin.

The Tigers made the move before Tuesday's game against Seattle. The Tigers purchased the contract of catcher Omir Santos from Triple-A Toledo to take Martinez's roster spot.

Martinez left Monday's game in the second inning. He had tweaked his groin in his final at-bat at Oakland on Saturday and then rested Sunday as a precaution.

Martinez said he felt the muscle strain during his only at-bat on Monday, in which he singled.

Manager Jim Leyland says he's mad at himself for playing Martinez. The decision now was to give Martinez a full stint on the DL to get healthy.
