Yankees Reliever Pedro Feliciano Avoids Surgery for Now, Hoping to Heal Shoulder Through Rehab

After Yankees reliever Pedro Feliciano was diagnosed with a torn capsule in his throwing shoulder, it seemed that the pitcher was inevitably heading toward season-ending surgery.

However, after an examination with renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews on Monday, it has been determined that Feliciano will take the rehab route instead, ESPN.com reports.

Dr. Andrews has advised that the Yankees' left-hander complete a six-week rehabilitation program designed to strengthen his shoulder rather than heading into surgery right away. Feliciano will miss the next two months at least, and could still face surgery if the rehab option does not fully heal the injured shoulder.

Feliciano hasn't thrown for the Yankees since spring training, but he'll be staying on with the team throughout his rehabilitation.
