Jalen Rose Admits to Drunken Driving, Says He Had Six Drinks on Night of DWI

Former NBA player and current ESPN analyst Jalen Rose pleaded guilty Wednesday to operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

A former member of Michigan's Fab Five, Rose admitted to drinking six martinis prior to driving his Cadillac Escalade off a snowy road on March 11 in West Bloomfield Township, Mich., according to The Associated Press.

Rose had initially said that he hadn't been drinking that night. During the arrest, the former guard said there was no reason for his incarceration. Rose asserted that "he hadn't been drinking" when told he was being arrested for driving while intoxicated. Rose stuck with his claim in a March 30 statement, saying he hadn't felt impaired while driving the vehicle.

Yet, the former NBA player had a different story when standing in front of Judge Kimberly Small on Wednesday.

"I'm embarrassed to say I had six drinks that evening," Rose said.

In response to a question addressing the size of the drinks, Rose said, "I'm embarrassed to say probably too big."

Rose's blood-alcohol level was a .088 at the time of his arrest, above Michigan's limit of .08. A blood test taken at a hospital revealed that Rose actually had a blood-alcohol level of .12.

Rose will be sentenced on July 27. He faces a maximum of 93 days in jail, a $500 fine and court costs.

Rose, along with fellow teammates Chris Webber and Juwan Howard, led Michigan to the NCAA finals in 1992 and 1993. Rose, selected No. 13 overall by the Denver Nuggets in 1994, had a 13-year NBA career.
