You knew going into the series that Tampa Bay had some dangerous scorers, but after two games, most Bruins fans are gasping for air.
That’s because the Tampa Bay offense might be a bit better than advertised. The Lightning, thus far, have made Tim Thomas work hard, and they’ve beaten him nine times in the two games (with an empty-netter added for fun). They used that to power a 5-2 win in Game 1, and they used it to push the B’s to the limit in Game 2.
Now, some might see the numbers and be overwhelmed, while others may look to some fortuitous bounces. The first goal in Game 1 was put on Sean Bergenheim‘s stick by Dennis Seidenberg, while the third goal was gifted by Tomas Kaberle behind the Boston net. The fourth goal appeared to have deflected off the butt of Thomas’ stick.
In Game 2, Adam Hall took a puck that bounced off the end boards and banked it off Thomas’ back. Martin St. Louis deflected a puck off Johnny Boychuk and into the net, and Dominic Moore‘s shot went off Thomas’ face and off Adam McQuaid before crossing the goal line.
So, are the Lightning as good as their 10 goals say they are, or are they more the beneficiaries of good luck?
