Jed Lowrie Returns to Red Sox Lineup, Jason Varitek Behind the Plate Against White Sox

Jed Lowrie is back in the Red Sox lineup for a Tuesday night meeting with the Chicago White Sox.

After going 2-for-4 and raising his average to .306 in the first half of a day-night doubleheader Sunday, Lowrie sat in the nightcap and then again in the series opener with Chicago on Monday with a sore left shoulder.

Lowrie and left fielder Carl Crawford had collided chasing a fly in that afternoon affair.

Lowrie will settle into the seventh spot in the lineup, behind Crawford and in front of J.D. Drew. Crawford went 9-for-12 with six extra-base hits and seven RBIs in his first three games batting sixth, but is 0-for-11 in three games since.

Not one Boston starter has ever faced White Sox right-hander Phil Humber, who will get the start after a flip-flop with originally scheduled starter Gavin Floyd. Drew Sutton, who will begin this one on the bench, is 0-for-1 with a strikeout vs. Humber.

Jason Varitek is behind the plate and batting ninth. He has a hit in eight straight starts.

Alfredo Aceves is on the mound for Boston. Chicago's starting lineup is a combined 5-for-22 (.227) with no extra-base hits against him.
