Ted Williams, Carl Yastrzemski, Jim Rice and Dwight Evans. That was the entire list of players with 300 or more home runs in a Red Sox uniform entering Saturday night's matchup with the Cubs before David Ortiz went deep.
With his team trailing 1-0, Ortiz hit a two-run shot off Carlos Zambrano that barely landed in the Monster seats in left field.
It's been a familiar site for Red Sox fans — both that Ortiz's homer put the team on top and that it cleared the Monster seats — since he became the full-time DH in 2003.
The 35-year-old slugger now sits fifth on the Red Sox's all-time home run list, trailing only Williams (521), Yastrzemski (452), Rice (382) and Evans (379), respectively.
