Report: Nuggets Shooting Guard J.R. Smith Cited for Illegally Operating Scooter in South Beach

A highly sought-after free agent, 2011 was supposed to be a big offseason for Denver Nuggets shooting guard J.R. Smith.

He's kicked it off in style, getting arrested in South Beach for illegal scootering.

Smith was cited over the weekend for operating a scooter without a license. The reason that he lacked a license was because it has been suspended five times, including a current term lasting until March 2012, as a result of a reckless-driving conviction that stemmed from an incident in which the passenger of the vehicle that he was operating was killed, according to CBS Sports.

Iblog126.com has posted a photo of the citation. Smith was not taken to jail, and his court date is pending.

It remains unclear why Smith was operating a scooter, or what he did to cause the citation.
