Returning home run balls hit by opposing players has been a harmless gesture for years. However, one Chicago Cubs fan took the gesture a little overboard Tuesday.

After Miguel Tejada roped a ball into the left-field bleachers, the fan tossed chucked it back toward the field of play. As Tejada rounded second, the ball nearly hit him on a bounce.

The ball landed just outside the Giants dugout, where Tejada's teammate Cody Ross handed him the souvenir as he crossed home plate.
