Jed Lowrie Leaves Red Sox-Rays Game After Top of First Inning

Jed Lowrie was replaced at shortstop by Marco Scutaro after the top of the first inning Thursday at Tampa Bay.

Lowrie struck out swinging with the bases loaded and appeared to be in pain upon doing so. He has been bothered by left shoulder pain for roughly two weeks, the result of a collision with left fielder Carl Crawford in a game at Detroit late last month.

An MRI taken on the shoulder last week showed no structural damage, but Lowrie's struggles have continued. After the strikeout, he was just 4-for-36 (.111) in June.
