Baseball, America's pastime, has an incredibly rich history. From the game's invention, to its introduction to America, to Major League Baseball today, history continues to be made.
John Thorn, who in March was named Major League Baseball's Official Historian, wants people of all ages to learn the history of baseball. His latest book, First Pitch: How Baseball Began, aims at arguably his best audience yet.
With the release of Beach Ball Books' first children's book on baseball, Thorn provides a colorful and illustrative look at the game of baseball for children. At an early age, kids can look at historical pictures and memorablia while learning about the history of baseball.
Thorn, who will head up various research projects as official MLB historian, is already an accomplished baseball writer. His books inlude Baseball in the Garden of Eden: The Secret History of the Early Game, Treasures of the Baseball Hall of Fame and the Total Baseball encyclopedia series.
Thorn succeeds Chicago Tribune and Chicago Sun-Times baseball writer Jerome Holtzman as official historian.
