Ray Allen Exercises Player Option, Will Remain With Celtics for 2011-12 Season

The NBA's all-time leader in 3-pointers will again be wearing green and white next season.

Celtics shooting guard Ray Allen exercised his player option for the 2011-12 season on Wednesday, choosing to forego free agency and remain in Boston.

Allen, who shot a career-high 44.4 percent from long distance this season, signed a two-year, $20 million contract last summer which included a player option for the 2011-12 season. Had Allen not exercised his player option, he would have again been a free agent this summer.

The 35-year-old averaged 16.5 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game this season and made his 10th career appearance in the NBA All-Star Game. He is 24th on the league's all-time scoring list with 22,286 points.
