Report: Mason Raymond to Miss Game 7 With Broken Vertebra, While Johnny Boychuk Won’t Face NHL Discipline

Canucks winger Mason Raymond won’t return for Game 7 and will need four to six months of recovery from a back or hip injury, according to Nick Kypreos of Sportsnet.ca.

Dan Murphy of Sportsnet later added that a source close to Raymond said he suffered a fractured vertebra and he may not be able to travel with the team.

In the opening seconds of Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final, Johnny Boychuk awkwardly hit Raymond into the corner boards in the Boston zone. Raymond lay on the ice for several minutes before being helped to the bench. It was unclear what exactly he injured, but it was serious enough to send him to a Boston hospital.

Kypreos also reports that Boychuk won’t be receiving any supplemental discipline from the NHL, as the league will not review the hit.

Raymond has zero points and a minus-3 rating in the Stanley Cup Final, and he has two goals and six assists in 23 playoff games this year.
