Report: Sunderland Proving Problematic in Liverpool’s Attempt to Sign Connor Wickham of Ipswich

Liverpool Manager Kenny Dalglish's biggest signing so far this season could be coming back to haunt him.

After acquiring midfielder Jordan Henderson from Sunderland for £20 million, Dalglish set his sights on Ipswich's Connor Wickham. However, Steve Bruce now has the means to go after the U-21 England international himself after offloading both Henderson and Darren Bent for huge fees.

Liverpool needs to double its offer of £5.5 million to match Sunderland in an attempt to sign one of England's top young prospects, according to the Sunday People.

Sunderland, desperate to revamp its offensive attack after losing Bent and with Danny Welbeck set to return Manchester United, could prove a better immediate fit for Wickham.

Not only are the Black Cats well equipped to please the young striker's financial requests, they also provide an opportunity to play with the first team sooner.
