2011 MLB All-Star Game Sets Record-Low Ratings for Event

Perhaps it was the 35 first-time All-Stars. Maybe it was the lack of starpower with Derek Jeter, Albert Pujols and Alex Rodriguez all missing out. Or it could have been people's desire to watch America's Got Talent.

Despite Bud Selig's attempt to make the All-Star game more competitive and thus, more exciting, the 2011 MLB Midsummer Classic had record-low ratings.

The game, aired on FOX, earned a 6.9 rating and 12 share. That is down from last year's record-low, which was a 7.5 rating and 13 share.

The previous lowest ratings were in 2005, when All-Stars like Pedro Martinez and Roy Halladay were forced to miss the game.
