Cape Cod League All-Star Game Live Blog: East All-Stars Ride Dominant Pitching to 4-1 Win at Fenway

End 9th: Muncy flies out to left and that's the game.

The East All-Stars are victorious in this year's All-Star Game by a score of 4-1.

And that's my cue to sign off, thank you everyone for joining me tonght.

Bottom 9th: Roache sits down as well on a check-swing strikeout. The crowd does not agree.

Bottom 9th: After a long battle, Gott gets Coyle swinging. One out.

Mid 9th: Simms sits the East Stars down in order, and the West will send Tommy Coyle, Victor Roache and Max Muncy to the plate in the ninth for one last shot against Trevor Gott.

What do you think?  Leave a comment.

Gott is 11 for 11 in save situations this season for Orleans.

Top 9th: Falmouth's John Simms will be the final pitcher of the night for the West, and he hopes to keep his team within striking distance in the ninth.

End 8th: Capps says, "not so fast, my friend," and blazes fastballs by both Janowski and Stamets to end the inning.

Capps can throw some serious gas, with his fastball reaching 97 mph this inning. A look at his scouting report shows that this is the norm for him — he has allowed just one run on 13 hits in 12 appearances this season.

Bottom 8th: Jake Rodriguez reaches on a dropped third strike and up comes Janowski and his big bat.

Janowski and Stamets — who is currently on deck — have accounted for all three of the West's hits tonight.

Bottom 8th: A light rain has started to fall at Fenway, hopefully it stays light.

The attendance has just been announced for tonight's game: 7,007.

Mid 8th: After a leadoff walk, Wade settles in, retiring the following three batters.

"Sweet Caroline" breaks out at the ballpark as we head to the bottom of the eighth, with Harwich's Carter Capps on the mound.

End 7th: Wareham's Konner Wade now pitching.

Bottom 7th: The West still can't get anything done offensively, however, as they go down in order to Brewster's Austin Voth.

Top 7th: Nice inning by the West.

Wahl sat Mason Katz down with a 95 mph heater to start things off. He then proptly beaned Matt Duffy, but Plawecki sniped Duffy as he was trying to steal second.

Stamets again showed his impressive range for the third out, ranging to his left to throw out Ryan Jones on a grounder up the middle.

Top 7th: Cotuit closer Bobby Wahl now on to pitch for the West.

The scouting report describes this kid as a "freshman flame throwing righty," and after two 95 mph fastballs I can see why.

Wahl has 34 strikeouts in 21 innings this year for the Kettleers. I don't know why but Bobby Wahl sounds like a great closer name to me.

Bottom 6th: And Overman does not allow a run in this appearance either, retiring the side in order with two K's.

Middle 6th: Chris Overman now in to pitch for the East. Overman has not allowed a run in 17 relief appearances for Harwich this season.

Top 6th: Tough luck there for the East squad, as Harwich's Luke Voit reached third but was doubled up after Ben Waldrip lined out to shortstop.

The West sent in their reserves this inning, with Dietrich Enns coming in to pitch, Tommy Coyle entering the game at second, Joey Rickard replacing Jeremy Baltz in left and Kevin Plawecki relieving Cantwell behind the plate.

End 5th: Another 1-2-3, the fourth straight scoreless inning for the West.

Middle 5th: Wholesale changes for the East now.

J.T. Chargois comes in as this inning's pitcher, and he is joined by new catcher Luke Voit and outfielders Jabari Henry and Andrew Toles.

Top 5th: We have our first home run of the game, as James Ramsey goes yard off Farrell to add to the East's lead.

Farrell pitched well otherwise, retiring the other three East batters he faced.

4-1 East.

End 4th: 1-2-3 for Johnson, as the East Stars go down in order.

Andover native John Farrell comes in to pitch for the West and receives a warm welcome from the hometown crowd.

Not sure if there is any relation to the former Red Sox pitching coach by the same name. His father's name is John so it is a possibility. (Edit: Nope, according to Wikipedia there is no relation)

Mid 4th: Orleans' Tyler Johnson, out of Stony Brook University, now in to pitch.

Fun fact: 31 universities are represented in this game, and Stony Brook leads all with three All-Stars. Johnson is joined by fellow Seawolves Janowski and Patrick Cantwell (both Bourne Braves).

LSU, Arizona, Rice, North Carolina, Kentucky and Michigan State all have two players in tonight's game, and 24 other schools have one.

Top 4th: No. 6 hitter Stephen Piscotty reaches on his second hit of the night, but Y-D teammate Mason Katz can't do the same, flying out to center. Matt Duffy follows suit and the East go down scoreless.

End 3rd: Victor Roache goes down looking for the third out.

Roache's last name is spelled wrong on the JumboTron in center field, I wonder if they'll catch that before the end of the night.

His college teammate at Georgia Southern, Chris Beck, now pitching for the West.

Bottom 3rd: Stamets reaches on an infield single of his own, but a nice 6-4-3 double play sends him back to the bench. Two outs.

Middle 3rd: Conway strikes out Phillips to end the third, and now we'll see Brewster's Tony Bucciferro, a righty out of Michigan State.

Top 3rd: Jones heads to second on a wild pitch, then to third on a Cody Keefer ground out, then Jason Monda brings him home with a single to right.

3-1 East.

Top 3rd: Eric Stamets has been tested with a couple of tough grounders in the hole, and Ryan Jones is able to beat this one out for a no-out infield single.

End 2nd: You could call that a 1-2-3-4 inning for Koch.

After a ground out and a fly out, Koch struck out Patrick Cantwell, but the pitch got away from catcher Dane Phillips and Cantwell reached on the dropped third strike.

Koch responded, however, getting Janowski to ground out to end the inning.

Bourne's Josh Conway now on the mound for the West.

Middle 2nd: Matt Duffy pops out in foul territory to end the inning, and Chatham's Matt Koch strolls to the mound for the bottom of the second.

Top 2nd: Woah, woah. We have baseballs flying everywhere.

Y-D's Mason Katz doubles down the left-field line, and the throw home to catch Piscotty goes high.

Firth then corrals the ball and tries to nab Katz at third, but that throw goes wild as well and the DH comes in to score.

2-1 East.

Top 2nd: Stamets almost makes a Nomar-esque play to rob Stephen Piscotty, but the throw comes up a little short and the East have their first base runner.

Top 2nd: We have the first of many expected pitching changes — this is an All-Star Game after all — as Hyannis' Scott Firth replaces Eades for the West.

Bottom 1st: Rogers walks DH Victor Roache, which can't be a bad thing considering the way Roache is killing the ball this season, then gets Max Muncy and Jeremy Baltz on deep fly outs to end the inning.

Bottom 1st: Nice heads-up play by West third baseman Stephen Priscotty, who fields a weak grounder and tags Stamets trying to score.

Batter Colin Moran reaches second on the play.

Bottom 1st: Make that the first run of the game as well.

Stamets reaches on a beautiful bunt, and a wild throw allows Janowski to score from first on the play. 1-0 West.

Bottom 1st: Hard-hitting Travis Janowski sends a sharp grounder up the middle off Taylor Rogers for the first hit of the game.

Middle 1st: A 1-2-3 first for Eades.

After getting Ramsey to ground out to second, the right-hander out of LSU struck out Cody Keefer and got Jason Monda to ground to shortstop Eric Stamets.

Eades has been downright filthy for Bourne this season, carrying a league-best .84 ERA into the break.

Top 1st: Y-D center fielder James Ramsey fouls off Ryan Eades' first pitch and we are underway.

6:47 p.m.: The East and West All-Stars line up along their respective foul lines after their official introductions.

I've always found the sight of all the different jerseys lined up together to be one of the cooler aspects of All-Star games.

6:18 p.m.: The left-field bleachers are finally getting a little love, as Palka sends three into the green seats.

He cannot reach six, though, and Shaffer is crowned champion. The competition was completed in under 20 minutes, a far stretch from the MLB's two-hour long Derby.

The grounds crew will now ready the field and we will be underway in about 45 minutes.

6:16 p.m.: Wilson hits some monsterous fly balls, but only one has the distance.

Now we're on to our final hitter of the night — and only left-hander — Wareham's Daniel Palka.

6:13 p.m.: The pride of Jacksonville U. sends three shots over the Monster, but cannot manage any more, and sits in second place after three hitters.

We have seen a multitude of Monster shots thus far, as the right-handed hitters are clearly taking advantage of Fenway's unique dimensions.

Another righty, Harwich's Austin Wilson, now steps up to the dish.

6:10 p.m.: Shaffer is the leader in the clubhouse with six, now it's Adam Walker's turn.

6:07 p.m.: Shaffer is bombing away at the Monster, and is up to six dingers with one out to go.

The kid has some serious power. Some of those shots would have cleared the old Coke bottles in left, and there are sure to be some broken windows on Lansdowne Street by the end of this contest.

6:05 p.m.: Chatham's Richie Shaffer at the plate now, and he clears the yard on consecutive pitches — one a Fisk-esque shot around the left field foul pole.

6:03 p.m.: Another shot by Roache, this one clearing the Green Monster, but that would be all, as the Ketteleer finishes with two homers.

6:02 p.m.: Here's the man everyone's here to see — Cotuit's triple crown threat Victor Roache.

And Roache gets a nice roar from the crowd with the evening's first home run.

5:58 p.m.: Not the performance the Ontario native was looking for: zero homers. Nivins couldn't seem to get solid contact on the ball as four of his outs came via foul tip.

5:52 p.m.: The Derby is about to begin.

Cotuit's Victor Roache, Wareham's Daniel Palka and Hyannis' Adam Walker will represent the West while Harwich's Austin Wilson, Chatham's Richie Shaffer and Brewster's Tanner Nivins will hit for the East.

Nivins comes to the plate first.

5:30 p.m.: It has been a bit tough to tell which player is which in their pregame All-Star jerseys — many of which don't match their numbers on the scorecard — but it's coming together as they take the field.

The East is out on the diamond now, with Whitecaps coach Tom Myers sending grounders and fly balls to the All-Stars at a frenetic pace.

The real action is set to begin in just under 30 minutes with the annual Home Run Derby.

5:13 p.m.: A few quick notes as the West All-Stars head out to take infield practice:

Tonight's game features players from all 10 Cape League teams. Bourne leads the way with seven representatives, followed by Brewster with six and Harwich and Hyannis with five apiece.

The Braves are currently in second place in the Western Division, but are 10 points back from first-place Hyannis, which ripped of an eight-game winning streak to end the first half of the season.

4:31 p.m.: Waldrip, a Medford High School graduate, is one of three Massachusetts natives playing in tonight's game.

He is joined by Bourne (and William & Mary) pitcher John Farrell of Andover and Wareham (and UConn) outfielder John Andreoli of Shrewsbury.

4:19 p.m.: Coming to you now from the best seat in the house: the Fenway Park press box.

The East All-Stars are currently taking batting practice, and Orleans' Ben Waltrip is putting on a show, belting all five of his practice pitches to the warning track in right.

Temperatures have cooled a bit as the day goes on, but its still very muggy at the ballpark. We have yet to get any rain, though, and we all hope it stays that way.

11 a.m.: For some of the future stars of Major League Baseball, Friday night is a very special evening.

The best of the best will gather at Fenway Park for the Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star Game.

The East team will be comprised of members of the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox, Brewster Whitecaps, Chatham Anglers, Orleans Firebirds and Harwich Mariners. The West team will be made up of Bourne Braves, Cotuit Kettleers, Falmouth Commodores, Hyannis Harbor Hawks and Wareham Gatemen. The West won last year 5-0.

The home run derby will begin at 6 p.m., with the first pitch of the game scheduled for 7:07 p.m.

Rain is in the forecast, so the folks at Fenway will be hoping to avoid the heavy stuff. Here are the lineups for both teams.
