Heath Bell, NL All-Star Coach Both Claim to Retrieve Pablo Sandoval's Ground-Rule Double Pablo Sandoval's first hit in an All-Star Game was a big one. His ground-rule double in the seventh inning Tuesday helped provide insurance in the National League's 5-1 win, and the Kung Fu Panda wanted a keepsake.

So when coach Mark Gardner handed him the ball, Sandoval packed it in his bag without question, according to John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle.

How Gardner came in possession of the ball is unclear, though, because NL reliever Heath Bell reportedly says he retrieved the ball and tossed it into the stands.

Sandoval, the first Giants position player to appear in an All-Star Game since Barry Bonds in 2007, didn't seem very bothered by the possibility that his memento was just a random baseball.

"I don't care," he said.

Sandoval got his hit, fulfilling a childhood dream of driving in a run and winning an All-Star Game. That's enough for him.
