Report: Matt Garza High on Red Sox’ List of Potential Trade Targets

Just a few months after being shipped out of Tampa Bay, Matt Garza could be on his way back to the AL East. According to the Chicago Tribune, Garza is high on the Red Sox' list of trade targets.

The Boston Globe also reported that both the Sox and the Yankees would be interested in the 27-year-old right-hander if he becomes available.

Garza, who was the MVP of the 2008 ALCS when the Rays defeated the Sox in seven games, is 4-7 with a 4.26 ERA this season. He won a career-high 15 games last season to go along with a 3.91 ERA.

The Red Sox' need for a starting pitcher relies heavily on the long-term health of Clay Buchholz and Jon Lester, both of whom are on the disabled list, and Josh Beckett, who was removed from his last start after tweaking his knee.

Beckett has been cleared to pitch for Tuesday's All-Star Game, though.
