Report: Carlos Beltran Would Waive No-Trade Clause If Traded to Red Sox

With all the Jose Reyes trade rumors that are swirling, one New York Mets name is getting slightly overlooked as a trade candidate — Carlos Beltran.

There is a good chance that the Mets will deal their right fielder, a free agent after the season, prior to the trade deadline. One thing that could hinder any possible deal is the fact that Beltran owns a full no-trade clause in his contract with the Mets. But according to WEEI.com, Beltran would waive his no-trade clause if the Mets and Red Sox were to work out a trade.

When asked if he would waive his no-trade rights, Beltran simply said "They're in first place. That's a no-brainer."

Despite the impressive play by Josh Reddick recently, the Red Sox could use an upgrade in right field with J.D. Drew's 2011 struggles. Beltran's switch-hitting bat already seemed like the perfect fit even before he said he would waive his no-trade clause to join the Sox. However, the Red Sox reportedly cannot add much payroll in any trade, and Beltran would still be owed the $6 million left on his contract for 2011.

Beltran has enjoyed a great comeback season after dealing with injuries in recent years. He is hitting .285 with 13 homers and 58 RBIs in 2011 and is also sporting an impressive .890 OPS.
