Report: Derek Jeter Missing All-Star Game Because of 'Emotional and Physical Exhaustion' Derek Jeter was under a lot of pressure in the past few weeks to reach 3,000 hits, especially as the Yankees returned home this weekend. That pressure has apparently taken its toll and is one of the major reasons Jeter isn't in Arizona right now.

FOXSports.com reports that sources close to the Yankees shortstop say that he is missing the All-Star Game in Phoenix due to "emotional and physical exhaustion."

Jeter announced last week that he would miss the All-Star Game after being elected to start for the American League, originally citing concern over the chance he may re-injure the right calf that forced him to miss three weeks.

Still, Jeter returned to the Yankees lineup earlier this week, and he finally reached the 3,000-hit milestone over the weekend against Tampa Bay. The veteran shortstop played in the final six games for the Yankees before the break.

The FOX report also cites a source that claims Jeter may have decided to play in the All-Star game had he reached 3,000 hits earlier in the week, as he would have had more time to "decompress."

Jeter isn't the only Yankee not attending. Mariano Rivera and Alex Rodriguez were also forced to turn down the opportunity, as they are both injured.
