Arian Foster blossomed from undrafted free agent to one of the premier running backs in the NFL last season. But he said that despite his NFL-best 1,616 rushing yards, he was afraid of losing his job.
Foster said in an interview with The Sporting News that he played the majority of the season with a torn meniscus in his knee, without revealing the injury to anyone until season's end.
"My responsibility and my job is to make sure the people in the front office don't replace me, because every single day they're looking to replace me," Foster told NFL Network's Total Access.
After playing in just six games his rookie season, the Texans running back exploded onto the scene in 2010, leading the league in rushing yards, while adding 18 total TDs and 604 receiving yards.
If the "most interesting man in the NFL" — as The Sporting News calls him — could put up these types of stats with a bad knee, it's frightening to imagine his potential now that he's fully healthy.
"My responsibility and my job is to make sure the people in the front office don't replace me, because every single day they're looking to replace me," he said. "And so I have to make sure I block with the best, run with the best and catch with the best. That's my job."
