Cubs Pitcher Carlos Zambrano Placed on Disqualified List, Won’t Receive Pay for 30 Days

ATLANTA — The Chicago Cubs have placed pitcher Carlos Zambrano on the disqualified list.

Zambrano cleaned out his locker and left the team after giving up five homers and being ejected from Friday night's 10-4 loss to the Braves. He did not return to the team Saturday.

General manager Jim Hendry said Saturday that Zambrano would receive no pay for 30 days and would have no activity with the club.

Hendry says Zambrano's actions, including a brush-back pitch to Chipper Jones that led to the ejection, are "intolerable."

Cubs manager Mike Quade said Friday night that Zambrano told team personnel he might end his playing career.
