Dan Uggla continued his hitting streak on Friday night with a pair of home runs, and he has now hit safely in 32 games, or, 24 games short of Joe DiMaggio's record.
DiMaggio, of course, hit safely in 56 straight games in 1941, the same year that Red Sox legend Ted Williams hit .400. Today, DiMaggio's record still stands, and no hitter has yet to reach the .400 mark for an entire season.
The Boston Globe's Dan Shaughnessy spoke about the prospect of a hitter in today's game hitting .400, and while he doesn't think it's impossible, he certainly doesn't think it's likely.
