As Erik Bedard takes the mound for the Red Sox in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday, Jarrod Saltalamacchia will relieve Jason Varitek of the catching duties. Jed Lowrie will also come in — although Lowrie will be playing third base while Marco Scutaro stays at shortstop.

Terry Francona also altered the order of the lineup slightly, moving Josh Reddick down to the ninth spot to face Graham Godfrey, who is 1-1 on the season. Carl Crawford, who left the first game early, will also be out of the lineup.

The Athletics put in Anthony Recker, Hideki Matsui and David DeJesus in relief of Kurt Suzuki, Ryan Sweeney and Connor Jackson, in addition to moving Cliff Pennington to the bottom of the lineup.

Jemile Weeks and Coco Crisp will still be at the top of the lineup, and Matsui will be batting third while Josh Willingham will be batting cleanup.

This game is the second of a doubleheader. The game was originally scheduled for Sunday but was moved because of Hurricane Irene.
