Relive the Moment: ‘Beat L.A.’ Chant Originates During Game 7 of 1982 Eastern Conference Finals

Despite popular belief, the “Beat L.A.” chant didn’t originate during a C’s-Lakers Finals, but instead during Game 7 of the 1982 Philadelphia-Boston Eastern Conference Finals. With Philadelphia leading in the final moments, the Celtics fans began chanting, “beat L.A.” in support of Philly beating the C’s hated rivals in the Finals.
