Vince Wilfork Responds to Being Named in Miami Scandal: ‘It’s Tough’

FOXBORO, Mass. — Patriots defensive lineman Vince Wilfork addressed the media for the first time since being named in a Yahoo! Sports report that claimed he received illegal benefits from a booster during his time at the University of Miami.

Wilfork released a "no comment" type of statement last Wednesday on Twitter, but he elaborated a little more Monday in the locker room at Gillette Stadium. The report claimed Wilfork received a $50,000 lump sum from the booster, as well as two Cadillac Escalades.

"It's tough, but you know what, I released a statement a couple of days ago, whatever it was, and that's what I met with," Wilfork said. "I've moved forward. I'm done with that situation, and you know what, I'm just focused on my football career, and one thing I don't want to do is be a distraction to this team, to this organization, and I won't be that.

"My teammates stuck behind me 100 percent, my family, the organization, so I've moved forward. I'm definitely toward Detroit Lions now, and it feels good to be around a great group of guys. It feels real good."
