With the Texas Rangers fighting to hang on to their three game lead in the AL West, Josh Hamilton came through with a grand slam Wednesday night to lift them over the Indians, 9-1. Most Texas fans went home happy, but one swing of the bat will prove to be pretty pricey for the owners of CC Carpet and Floor Design in Dallas.
On Aug. 29, they put out an promotion that told potential buyers, if Hamilton hit a grand slam before season's end, all flooring and counter tops would be completely free. Hamilton, who hadn't hit a grand slam since May of 2008, connected on a David Huff pitch in the fourth inning to ultimately cost company owner Steve Fitzgerald $500,000.
"I’m excited. I’m great.," Fitzgerald told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "I wish he could have waited until the last game of the season so more people could have gotten it."
Fitzgerald, thinking ahead and not being one to doubt Hamilton's power, took out an insurance policy at the start of the promotion.
