Mets Manager Terry Collins Says Team Has 'Folded It Up' After Completing 1-8 Homestand There should be a general rule of thumb when it comes to rooting for baseball teams, at least in most cases — it could be worse, you could be a Mets fan.

Red Sox fans who are watching Boston do everything it can to give away the wild card to the Rays, may take solace in the hard times that continue to dog the team from Queens.

The Mets' season has reached a new low point, and manager Terry Collins is fed up with what he's seen.

"Perception is reality in our game and the perception I have right now is we've folded it up," Collins said after another Mets loss on Thursday, according to ESPN.com. "You want to see intenseness? You want to see me be intense? You guys are going to see it. I won't play that game. You come and play the game right. I don't care what the situation is. I don't care about anything but playing the game correctly. That's all I care about. Our fans should be upset. I don't blame them one bit."

Of course, Collins' anger over the lack of a made-up word pretty much personifies the struggles of the Mets right now. New York got its doors blown off on Thursday, as the Nationals rolled to a 10-1 win at Citi Field. The nine-run loss put a the finishing touches on a 1-8 homestand. The Mets have lost six in a row and sit at 71-79.

At the very least, Collins may have indirectly given the Red Sox the key to holding on to the wild card lead — it's all about intenseness.
