Nyjer Morgan Calls Out Albert Pujols on Twitter After Bench-Clearing Contest, Refers to Slugger As ‘Alberta’

Things got interesting during the Cardinals' 2-0 win over the Brewers on Wednesday night.

After Chris Carpenter struck out Nyjer Morgan in the ninth, some pleasantries were exchanged, a wad of tobacco was tossed and both benches were emptied. While no punches were thrown, some verbal jabs were taken after the game — first from Morgan's Twitter account, as the outfielder was apparently upset that Albert Pujols came to the defense of his starting pitcher.

Pujols took the high road, but added in a little something-something to keep things interesting.

"I actually like that guy," Pujols told MLB.com. "I don't mind having a guy like that on my team. He brings a lot of energy to the ballclub, and you want to have a guy like that. But sometimes I think he goes [a little overboard] and tries to put too much energy. I remember when he came up with Pittsburgh, the guy just played the game, played hard all the time, never talks. And now you wonder why he's been on three different ballclubs the last year and a half, you know?"

Carpenter bagged a complete-game shutout for his ninth win of the season. Check out video highlights of the contest by clicking here.
