Patriots Release Defensive Lineman Landon Cohen for Second Time in September

The Patriots released defensive lineman Landon Cohen on Tuesday, just six days after he re-signed with New England.

There was no concurrent roster move, but the Patriots might need to sign a tight end, depending on the health of Aaron Hernandez, who missed Sunday's game against the Bills with a knee injury. Reports indicated last week that Hernandez could be out from anywhere between one and six weeks.

If the Patriots add a tight end, they could reunite with Dan Gronkowski, who was released Friday.

Cohen, who does not have practice squad eligibility, was signed last week after the Patriots placed Myron Pryor on injured reserve. He played well for the Patriots in training camp and the preseason but was a victim of the numbers ahead of him on the depth chart.

Cohen's release could potentially be a good sign for defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth, who missed two practices last week and Sunday's game against the Bills with a back injury.
