Red Sox Place Kevin Youkilis on 60-Day Disabled List Making Room for Clay Buchholz to Be Activated Red Sox manager Terry Francona indicated Wednesday afternoon that third baseman Kevin Youkilis was likely to miss the rest of the season. The Sox made that official on Wednesday night.

The team announced that they have placed the ailing third baseman on the 60-day disabled list with a sports hernia and left hip bursitis. The move made room for the Red Sox on the 40-man roster as it allowed them to activate Clay Buchholz from the 60-day prior to the season finale in Baltimore.

"I think the writing's on the wall. I don't think you're going to see him play again [this season]," Francona told reporters in his pregame briefing in Baltimore hours before the Sox made the move official.

The trip to the DL ends what was another injury-riddled season for Youkilis. He spent time on the disabled list from Aug. 18-Sept. 1 with a back issue. Youkilis hit just .258 this season with 17 home runs and 80 RBIs in 120 games.
