Report: Pittsburgh, Syracuse ‘Likely Gone’ From Big East for Atlantic Coast Conference

Pittsburgh and Syracuse are "likely gone" from the Big East Conference, officials have reportedly told CBS Sports.

Pitt and Syracuse independently submitted letters of application to the Atlantic Coast Conference, an ACC source told Brett McMurphy. McMurphy also reports the ACC has been contacted by 10 schools and that Texas has "reached out" to the ACC.

"There is no scenario where a president applies to a league and isn't admitted," a Big East official said, according to the report.

The Big East went through a major change in membership in 2004 and 2005, when Miami, Virginia Tech and Boston College left for the ACC and Temple was kicked out. Syracuse was a founding member of the Big East in 1979. Pitt has been a member for almost three decades.
