Vote: Should Patriots Cut Brandon Meriweather?

As of Friday afternoon, the Patriots still had to make 19 cuts to make to get their roster down to 53 by the 4 p.m. deadline on Saturday.

One of the players who might be waiting on pins and needles to find out if his future is in Foxboro may be Pats safety Brandon Meriweather.

The Pro Bowl safety admitted following New England’s final preseason game on Thursday night that he was unsure of what his future may bring and whether or not it included him suiting up in a Patriots uniform next week in Miami.

Meriweather also found himself getting playing time with the reserves in the third and fourth quarters of Thursday’s game after Patrick Chung and Josh Barrett got the starts at safety. That’s not to say that Meriweather is out the door, but he may have been out there to give the Patriots a better look at different combinations before the final cuts.

There’s also still a chance that Meriweather doesn’t get cut or make the Patriots. Bill Belichick could of course decide he wants to ship the safety out of town instead, and he could have been showcasing Meriweather one more time before the season began.

Whatever the reason Meriweather was in the game that late isn’t exactly known. What’s also unknown is what Meriweather’s football-playing future looks like.

We’ll find out soon enough.
