Wall Street Journal Pushing for Red Sox to Miss Playoffs, Just to Teach Boston Kids a Lesson

Everyone knows that young Boston sports fans these days are spoiled. They didn't suffer through the decades of torment that the Patriots, Bruins and Celtics took turns dishing out and the 80-plus years of pain delivered at the hands of the Red Sox.

They didn't go through what their parents and grandparents endured, but do they deserve to suffer now? The Wall Street Journal says yes.

"Even a small humbling will be healthy for you," Jason Gay writes in his open letter addressed to "everyone in Boston who's 10 years old or younger."

"It will toughen you up," he wrote, "teach you what prior generations endured and make you appreciate it the next time your team wins. And there is some positive news, kids: Welcome to Boston! You finally made it."

Come on, Jason — they're just children!

"Do you know what it used to be like for sports fans from Boston?" he rhetorically asked his imaginary audience (not sure how many 7-year-olds read the WSJ). "Ask your mom. Ask your dad. Ask your grandparents. But pour them a tall bourbon first."

Well, he's got a point there.
