Zdeno Chara Leaves Bruins Practice After Being Hit With Shot, Day-to-Day With Leg Contusion

BOSTON — The Bruins had a bit of a scare in the afternoon session of Monday's training camp, as captain Zdeno Chara left the ice in pain after taking a shot off the inside of his left leg.

Chara did not return for the remainder of the practice, which finished with an intrasquad scrimmage at the Garden. Bruins coach Claude Julien stated that Chara is day-to-day with the injury.

"He just got a shot on the inside of his leg there," Julien said. "Right now it's a contusion and we're just going to evaluate it as we go along here."

Julien was not certain whether Chara will be able to participate in Tuesday's Black and White Game in Providence, which kicks off the club's preseason slate.

"This is training camp, if he needs an extra day we'll give him an extra day," Julien said. "If he's OK [Tuesday] he'll go. We'll see. It's a day-by-day bruise, a shot on the inside the leg."
