Bruins ‘Did Not Show Up’ to Play in Matinee, Jack Edwards Says in Radio Interview

The defending Stanley Cup champion Bruins dropped two of their first three games, and while the loss in the emotional opener was understandable, the matinee defeat to the Avalanche was not, NESN's Jack Edwards said in a radio appearance.

Edwards felt sorry for goalie Tuukka Rask, who played well in Monday's game but was saddled with a 1-0 loss when the Bruins couldn't score a goal.

"He played well, but the team did not show up, and that's inexcusable," Edwards told Kevin Karlson and Pete McKenzie on 100.7 WZLX. "They're not going to get a free pass on that."

The Bruins have always played a relatively high number of afternoon games and traditionally have excelled, but Edwards does not know why this year's team struggles in such games.

"This team has a really hard time playing before 5 p.m.," Edwards said. "They're just not a good matinee team."
