Cardinals Win World Series With 6-2 Win in Game 7 Behind Stellar Performance From Chris Carpenter

Two months ago, absolutely no one could have seen this coming. The St. Louis Cardinals are the 2011 World Series champions.

The Cards finished off the Texas Rangers with a 6-2 win in Game 7 to cap off one of the most memorable Fall Classics in quite some time.

St. Louis used a resilient effort from ace Chris Carpenter who was pitching on three day's rest. Carpenter worked six-plus innings and overcame a rocky couple of innings to start to give the Cardinals a chance to win. From there, he turned it over to the bullpen which was dominant as it's been all playoffs.

Allen Craig was the offensive hero with a home run in the third inning to give the Cardinals a 3-2 lead with what was the eventual game-winning home run. Craig also had a home run-saving catch when he robbed Nelson Cruz of a homer in the sixth inning to help Carpenter make it through the sixth.

It is the 11th world title for St. Louis.
