Report: Jed Hoyer to Get Five-Year Contract With Cubs, Padres to Receive Compensation From Chicago

The Red Sox and Cubs will get a deal done to allow Theo Epstein to leave Fenway for Wrigley at some point. When that point is, though, is still anyone's guess.

Reports indicate that talks over compensation between the Red Sox and Cubs continue, but there are a couple of developments in regards to what the Chicago front office will look like once the wheeling and dealing is done.

CBS Sports' Scott Miller is reporting that San Diego general manager Jed Hoyer is set to join the Cubs as well. That much we knew, but Miller also reports that, like Epstein, Hoyer will get a five-year deal. Hoyer will also get a raise as well. He'll jump ship to work as the Cubs' GM under Epstein who will in all likelihood become the president of baseball operations. It's also widely accepted that San Diego assistant GM Jason McLeod will join them in Chicago.

The Padres are expected to receive compensation for the front-office shakeup, but that process isn't expected to be as painstaking as the current one between the Red Sox and Cubs.

Meanwhile, the CBS report also indicated that it's unlikely everything — at least between Boston and Chicago — gets resolved by Friday. That may mean a resolution is still relatively far off, as Friday seemed like a logical day to have everything get wrapped up and announce the deal on the World Series off day.
